Mythoscape began as a master’s thesis at the School of Visual Arts. A project straight out of a dream, one that pushes the boundaries of traditional photography and explores new possibilities.
An invitation to escape into a mythological world of my creation, was inspired by a science fiction concept known as The Kardashev Scale. Astrophysicist Nikolai Kardashev established this scale as a means of classifying advanced civilizations based on their energy usage, categorized from types one to three.
Type III, a galactic civilization, proved itself by far the most difficult to conceptualize. The compelling nature of consciousness operating at the capacity of god-like beings provides endless visual possibilities.
Volumetric Capture
a photographic technique utilized for this project, involves multiple cameras surrounding a subject in order to capture one image simultaneously for the purpose of processing into digital software, producing a 3D object that can be placed into any environment and manipulated beyond the capabilities of a 2D photograph. The final result is a singular image that can be viewed at any angle, allowing the viewer to fully immerse themselves in the scene.
My hope with this project is to take part in the evolution of photography and challenge its traditional framework.
